Types of Concrete Overlay

Types of Concrete Overlay

There are many different types of concrete overlay that we could potentially use in our projects. With these many years in the business, we already have a list of the ones that we use the most. That does not mean that we can’t get something in that you need specifically. Most of the time what happens when people are shopping around is that they find a color or design that they like. This design comes in a certain type of overlay that we are going to cover. So don’t worry if you are confused you can always give us a call and we will clear things up for you!

Microtopping/Skim Coat

This is one of the best types of concrete overlays in our opinion because it can be applied both indoors and out. When applied correctly it can really sit well with any concrete surface. We say this because we have actually some attempts at painting concrete with very thick coat paints. The results are just not what you would typically be looking for. With Microtopping/Skim Coat overlay you are going to be able to choose the custom color that you want and you can even apply it before you have decided on the type of design that you are looking for.

Spray-down Overlay

This type of overlay is usually going to be applied to very specific areas. Usually when you have what could be considered grout lines on stamped concrete this type of overlay is known to be able to repair a lot of even looking lines. As its name would suggest you apply by spraying. That can be tricky though. A lot of people that try their hand at resurfacing on their own may want to go with this type of overlay because they think it is easy to apply. A lot of times it looks easy, but the results tell a different story when not done right!

Stampable Overlay

This is always a fan favorite one of the things that we enjoy the most about this type of overlay is the possibility to add texture. So, in reality, you are going to get a look that is as close to the real thing as you are going to get. The benefit of not actually using materials like bricks or other rock-based materials is that concrete usually requires less maintenance overall. The timing though has to be perfect. We can’t allow the overlay to be too dry or too wet before we start stamping. Here is where experience really pays off!

Self-Leveling

With this type of overlay, you know that you have a better chance to make an even and very thin coating over the concrete slab. The main idea is that you won’t end up with that bulky repair that just does not look natural. For us, it also allows us to cover larger areas a lot easier. We may be able to bring a smaller crew so it could alter the overall price of the project. Find out much more details
